Hizb ut tahrirA Bangladesh court refused bail on Sunday to 10 suspected members of the Hizb ut Tahrir group, which had threatened to bomb key installations if they were not released.

Police said the group's members had said in faxed messages that they would launch bomb and grenade attacks unless the detainees were freed without delay. One fax was received at the police commissioner's office in Rajshahi on Saturday evening. Similar messages were sent to several police headquarters on September 4, the police said.

The police detained 10 members of the banned group, including three university teachers, when they tried to hold a news conference at the Rajshahi press club on Thursday. The police said they were held on suspicion of plotting subversive acts against the country. The court refused to grant them bail. Rajshahi, 350 kilometres from the capital Dhaka, is considered a breeding ground of militants who have carried out a campaign of violence across the country. "We have issued a high security alert in Rajshahi and other main cities," a Rajshahi police officer said. The event, promoted as "The Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam" was scheduled for July 19th at the Aqsa School. A "Caliphate" or "Khilafah" refers to a traditional form of Arabic government based on Islam. It denotes a single nation of Muslim believers. Hizb ut-Tahrir means "The Islamic Liberation Party." GlobalSecurity.org sees Hizb ut-Tahrir somewhat different from what you will read below from Counterrorism Blog (CTB). I think GlobalSecurity is saying that the goal of Hizb ut-Tahrir is to bring all Muslims back into an Islamic society. It plans to do this by "changing the society's existing thoughts to Islamic thoughts so that such thoughts become the public opinion among the people, who are then driven to implement and act upon them...Hizb ut-Tahrir believes its faithful will cause secular governments to crumble because loyalties will then lie solely with Islam - not nationalities, politics or ethnic identifications. At that point the group says a supreme Islamic leader, a Caliph like those of past centuries would rule all Muslims with both political and religious authority." So, I would summarize GlobalSecurity.org as seeing Hizb ut-Tahrir as wanting to bring all Muslims back to Muslim thought without a political identity. In other words, their goal is not to convert the world, but to bring Muslims back into a strictly Islamic way of thinking and living. This contrasts (if I'm characterizing GlobalSecurity.org correctly) with Counterrorism Blog who sees HTA attempting to take over the world and see the rise of Islam and the destruction of capitalism. It's a day millions of Americans proudly display the American flag at their home to help celebrate what makes our country the best place in the world to live. But, there are organizations in America that do not share this view. For example, the Islamic Society of North America usually picks this weekend for their annual conference rather than stay at home to celebrate this holiday with their neighbors. A group committed to establishing an international Islamic empire and reportedly linked to Al Qaeda is stepping up its Western recruitment efforts by holding its first official conference in the U.S.
 
Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Sunni network with reported ties to confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Al Qaeda in Iraq’s onetime leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. It has operated discreetly in the U.S. for decades.
Now, it is coming out of the shadows and openly hosting a July 19 conference entitled, “The Fall of Capitalism and the Rise of Islam,” at a posh Hilton hotel in a suburb of Chicago.
 

Hizb ut-Tahrir insists that it does not engage in terrorism, and it is not recognized by the State Department as a known terror group.

But some terrorism experts say it may be even more dangerous than many groups that are on the terror list.

Should terrorist recruitment groups be allowed to have conferences openly right here in America?  During the Obama administration the apparent answer is yes.  Tomorrow in Chicago, such a group is meeting at the Hilton Hotel. 

According to Col. Ralph Peters, this group professes hatred of the Jews and the destruction of Israel.  They say America is evil and that capitalism is wrong.  They preach Hizb ut-Tahrirover the world and their goal is to recruit Muslim Americans to become involved in Jihad.

Welcome to America under the Obama administration.  An administration that releases terrorists from Guantanamo, brushes aside families of 9/11 victims and threatens to prosecute former government officials who went after the terrorists.  An administration that is more concerned about terrorists rights than protecting us from them. 

Welcome to terrorist friendly America.
