New Tobacco Tax Goes Into Effect On Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tobacco users, get ready to pay more for that nicotine craving. The single largest federal tax increase ever takes effect on April 1.

 

Smokers may have already seen a difference. The major cigarette makers raised prices a couple of weeks ago in part to offset any drop in profits once the per-pack tax climbs from 39 cents to $1.01.
