What would our Founding Fathers say?

They'say this "tea party" is merely feel-good symbolism that while providing a diversion for the
media on a typically non-news day, will do nothing to persuade those who hold the reins of power -
The One and the democRAT/RINO infested Congress.

Now maybe if all across the country, public officials were tarred and feathered, including
environmental bureaucrats, and their automobiles and SUV's rolled over and thrown in rivers...

Anti-stimulus protesters rally at the Arch
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH  Excerpted from: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/D3FFA37E8AF777BA8625756A00642DC0?OpenDocument

ST. LOUIS -- A large crowd braved chilly temperatures downtown today to protest President Barack Obama's stimlulus aprogram and to throw tea into the Mississippi River.

The gathering was organized by several local conservatives, who estimated the showing at more than 1,000 people. There was no official crowd estimate, but the gathering filled roughly one fourth of the grand staircase from the Arch grounds down to the levee.

Among the speakers was former football Cardinals tight end Jackie Smith, who took a bullhorn and said, "We are mad as hell and we need to stay mad as hell. Don't let up."

Tea Party Republicans by Jeffrey Feldman  (He seems so surprised, like the Dems have a lock on true patriotism! G.C.)  Excerpted from: http://scdfa.org/jeffrey-feldman-tea-party-republicans

Everywhere I look, these days, Republicans are revolting. Here are a few snapshots of what prominent Republicans are doing:

Ann Coulter: In weekly column told a racist joke about Bobby Jindal, called the Speaker of the House "mentally retarded," call public schools a "union incinerator" that eat children Michele Bachmann (R-MN): In remarks to the Conservative Political Action Conference, used racist black-face slang to praise RNC Chair Shelby Steele,"You be da man! You be da man!" Rush Limbaugh: On national radio show, called President Obama a "castrati", in response to Secretary of Defense Policy shift to allow press to photograph flag-draped caskets returning from Iraq Michelle Malkin: Maligned American victims of subprime mortgage scams as "predatory borrowers" Dean Grose (Republican Mayor, Los Alamitos, CA): Circulated racist email containing photo of watermelons growing on White House lawn with title "No Easter egg hunt this year" Incredibly, in addition to all this revolting behavior from leading Republican pundits and elected officials, there is also a full scale revolt led by Republicans against the American government, today.

That's right: a revolt.

The Republican revolt is called Tea Party U.S.A. and the idea is that Republicans will stage protests against government spending, today, to send the message to Washington that the American people are tired of taxation without representation--or something like that.

Curiously, the Facebook page for one of the Washington, DC, Tea Party says that this is not actually a Republican event:

This isn't a conservative or liberal thing. This is about government forking over billions of dollars to businesses that should have failed. This is about taking money from responsible people and handing it over to CEOs who squandered their own. (link)

That seems reasonable, until we look at the list of organizations sponsoring the Washington, DC, Tea Party:

Americans for Prosperity Americans for Tax Reform Young Conservatives Coalition The Heartland Institute National Taxpayers Union FreedomWorks Institute for Liberty Not exactly a "Who's Who" of progressive or liberal non-profit groups. And if we head on over to the Tea Party website, we see the following "talking points":

This is a non-partisan event — in fact, it’s critical of both parties — large-scale government interventions into the free market were kicked off under Bush, and Obama’s doing no better. The American taxpayer is better at spending his money than the government. If you ask your average taxpayer if he wanted to spend millions of dollars on golf course renovations, you could be sure he’d say no. Small business owners are the backbone of the economy, not large failing corporations. Amping up regulations only hurts these businesses. It is our *optimism* that guides our frustration. We believe so strongly in the ingenuity and hard work of the American people, that we feel big government measures will only get in the way of their success. Critical of both parties? Those talking points read like they were clipped out of a Gov. Jindal's response speech with a pair of safety scissors.  (Very lengthy and he does get into some mockery)   More at: http://scdfa.org/jeffrey-feldman-tea-party-republicans

New American Tea Party - Washington DC - Lafayette Square Park Today

Secondly, we’ve nailed down our location. We are meeting at Lafayette Square Park at noon on Friday. This is just north of the White house, and two blocks south of the Farragut North Metro station (very easy to get to from CPAC). If you’re on the orange/blue lines, take the McPherson Square metro stop. I’ll post a map in a moment.

(See Video Below) Please bring cameras, especially ones with video, American flags, and tea bags if you can find any to swing around the air. We’ll also have a very special surprise for the event.

We’re expecting a little rain. We’re going to go ahead and do this though, rain or shine. Liberty-minded people need to show that when the cause is worthy, they *will* rally. Let’s overturn the current wisdom that only activists can organize.

If you haven’t already, sign up with our email list.

Also, be sure to submit your video to us at newamericanteaparty+video@gmail.com. In 30 seconds, tell us who you are, where you’re from, and why you’re participating in our event, even if you can’t make it to Washington. Pass around the video below and spread the word! We’ll take some of the best, put them together in a single clip, and then post it back here on the blog

"We’re still mad as hell. And now Democrats can’t blame anyone else for a change." Dan Gainor

"President Obama and the Democrats give us a nearly $800 billion spending plan. And that’s been quickly followed by a housing plan, an auto plan and will probably be followed by another stimulus. How we’ll pay for it? Don’t ask, voters are told."

Watch Out, Mr. President, Because We’re Mad As Hell!

Excerpted from: Fox News Forum at: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/02/20/gainor_obama-4/

    By Dan Gainor
Vice President Business & Media Institute

“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”

In the 1970s, that phrase was made popular by the movie “Network,” where anchor Howard Beale parodied what TV news might become. In 2009, millions of us are mad as hell –- not at TV but at politics. Americans are mad because most of us play the game the right way and if we do, we are now the ones who lose.

Ordinary Americans try to do the right thing, just like Spike Lee told us. We get up, we go to work, raise our families, obey the law and pay our debts. We are mellower versions of the Clint Eastwood character in “Gran Torino.” We just want to be left alone –- by government especially.

The very change that swept Democrats into D.C. will surely sweep them away again if they squeeze ordinary citizens too much to pay for the failings of others.

Unfortunately, while ordinary folks were doing those right things, our politicians are doing all the wrong ones. To help deal with a spending crisis, President Obama and the Democrats give us a nearly $800 billion spending plan. And that’s been quickly followed by a housing plan, an auto plan and will probably be followed by another stimulus. How we’ll pay for it? Don’t ask, voters are told.

And if you live your life right, pay your bills and take care of your mortgage, all you might get is the mini-tax break of $400 per person. That’s about enough money for each of you to go to lunch once a week -– but only for a fast food lunch. At $7.69 a week, Obama’s “Making Work Pay” tax credit doesn’t make work pay very well.

The Roman Caesars appeased their people with bread and circuses. In 2009, Obama has offered us bread, too. But this time it’s just a few items from the Dollar Menu at McDonald’s. And, for circuses, the passage of his 1,071-page American Recovery and Reinvestment Act certainly ought to qualify. More than 300 Senators and Representatives –- nearly all of them Democrats –- voted for the largest spending bill in history without ever reading the darn thing!

No wonder we’re angry. While most of us were doing the right thing, some others –- foolish homeowners, stupid bankers, house flippers, idiot politicians and more –- were taking their cues from the movie “Good Fellas” and robbing us blind.

Now we are supposed to bail them out.

So far we’ve dumped several trillion dollars into that bucket and we’re still bailing with no end in sight. No end to what it’s going to cost us, that is. There is an end in sight -– an end to our savings, our retirements, our jobs, our future, even our children’s future.

    Who wouldn’t be angry?

CNBC’s Rick Santelli captured that furor by calling for a “Chicago tea party” in a February 19 edition of “Squawk Box” appearance now spreading across the internet like a wild fire. Santelli was a Howard Beale for a new generation –- an oddly cast Chicago Mercantile Exchange floor reporter venting his rage at the free-spending Obama administration. Santelli urged the new president to arrange an online referendum to “see if we really want to subsidize the losers’ mortgages.”

It wasn’t just Santelli. The exchange floor erupted in anger and boos as he asked them:

“How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor’s mortgage that has an extra bathroom and can’t pay their bills?”

The left and the mainstream media will discount this spontaneous moment. After all, those people on the floor who responded so strongly are just whiny financial types or so the pundits will claim. But the pundits will be wrong. Desperately wrong.

Team Obama has helped unleash that anger. Americans were justifiably frustrated at the reckless spending that came out of Washington and they kicked Republicans to the curb for a “change.”

Change came to Washington claiming bipartisanship and transparency. Obama lied on both. The bipartisan bill was rammed through with classic — and sleazy– Chicago-style politics. And how transparent is a process where even graduates of the Evelyn Wood speed reading course couldn’t have analyzed the bill?

Rather than mollify a worried electorate, the Democrats have angered it further. They invoke FDR like some patron saint of populism and expect the masses to march to their tune –- Pied Piper style.

The masses might be ready to march, but with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more, they no longer rely on leaders to lead. That populist rebellion took down one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, not over tax problems, but because of hubris. Tom Daschle, a former Senate Minority Leader, assumed he had the power to weather his tax problems. He had no problem with politicians, but an eruption of voter anger doomed his nomination.

People in Washington easily forget that the 1992 ... More from this excerpted article at: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/02/20/gainor_obama-4/

"He is the kiss of death to the economy." Howling Mind Bending Absurdity on Obama

" He's what is known as a psychic vampire"

    It’s Obama spreading panic
    Posted: 02/24/09 03:04 PM [ET]
Excerpted from THE HILL at: http://thehill.com/dick-morris/its-obama-spreading-panic-2009-02-24.html

Ultimately, all recessions and depressions resolve themselves into crises of confidence. The instant, global, 24/7 communications of today make them ever more so. President Obama, in his pursuit of liberal big-government spending, has totally neglected the role of the president of the United States in reversing global panic. To the contrary, his every remark and the constant preoccupation of his Cabinet is to heighten the sense of crisis and to escalate the predictions of doom if we do not do as they tell us and raise spending now and taxes later.

Instead of being a firewall, reassuring Main Street even as Wall Street crashed, he has become a conduit of panic, spreading the mood of desperation from the stock exchange floor to kitchen tables across the world.

There are bad loans, which became bad assets, that lie at the root of the crisis. Through deregulation by the government and the greed of financial institutions, they spread to every portfolio in the world. But these basic facts have metastasized out of all proportion to their real harm into job and financial insecurity for every family on Earth. It is President Obama, not the markets themselves, who has spread this fear. A global Paul Revere, he has not only aroused us, but incited fear and trepidation in his wake.

Previous panics have been global in impact, but local in focus. The world panicked because of developments in Mexico or Argentina or Thailand or South Korea. Now, with Collateralized Debt Obligations spreading the poison of a bunch of bad loans all over the world, infecting every portfolio, the panic is not only global in impact but in focus as well. Modern communications have hastened the spread of the virus of panic throughout the global bloodstream.

In addressing this panic, the president of the United States must truly be the leader of the world — showing the way back to confidence.

Instead, Obama has been instrumental in purveying fear and spreading doubt. It is his pronouncements, reinforced by the developments they kindle and catalyze, that are destroying good businesses, bankrupting responsible people and wiping out even conservative financial institutions. Every time he speaks, he sends the markets down and stocks crashing. He doesn’t seem to realize that the rest of the world takes its cue from him. He forgets that he stands at the epicenter of power, not on the fringes campaigning for office. This ain’t Iowa.

Why does Obama preach gloom and doom? Because he is so anxious to cram through every last spending bill, tax increase on the so-called rich, new government regulation, and expansion of healthcare entitlement that he must preserve the atmosphere of crisis as a political necessity. Only by keeping us in a state of panic can he induce us to vote for trillion-dollar deficits and spending packages that send our national debt soaring.

And then there is the matter of blame. The deeper the mess goes — and the further down his rhetoric drives it — the more imperative it becomes to lay off the blame on Bush. He must perpetually “discover” — to his shock — how deep the crisis that he inherited runs, stoking global fears in the process.

So, having inherited a recession, his words are creating a depression. He entered office amid a disaster and he is transforming it into a catastrophe, all to pass every last bit of government spending and move us a bit further to the left before his political capital dwindles.

But the jig will be up soon. The crash of the stock market in the days since he took power (indeed, from the moment he won the election) can increasingly be attributed to his own failure to lead us in the right direction, his failed policies in addressing the recession and his own spreading of panic and fear. The market collapse makes it evident that it is Obama who is the problem, where he should, instead, be the solution.    Excerpted from THE HILL at: http://thehill.com/dick-morris/its-obama-spreading-panic-2009-02-24.html

"It's (short-term fix) like giving a shivering alcoholic a case of Special Brew.” Niall Ferguson

‘The reality being repressed is that the Western world is suffering a crisis of indebtedness.’ In which case, pumping out yet more debt will not be the answer. It is simply a short-term fix that in the long run creates an even bigger disaster, like giving a shivering alcoholic a case of Special Brew.”  Niall Feguson, professor of history at Harvard University

    A Perfect Storm
Words from the (investment) wise for the week that was
    (February 16 - 22, 2009)

A perfect storm of a deepening global recession and banking woes last week battered equities and supported the safe havens of the US dollar, government bonds and gold bullion.

A dismal corporate earnings outlook, fears about bank nationalizations, especially Bank of America (BAC) and Citigroup (C), and a warning by Moody’s Investors Service of possible downgrades of European banks exposed to the slumping economies of Central and Eastern Europe, stoked investors’ fears.

Few stock markets escaped the selling pressure as summarized by the week’s movements of the MSCI Global Index (-7.7%, YTD -16.0%) and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index (-9.3%, YTD -11.4%). Venezuela (+6.7%), Pakistan (+6.1%) and Morocco (+3.7%) were the top three performers, whereas potential debt defaulters - Russia (-17.1%), Ukraine (-12.5%) and Hungary (-12.4%) - occupied the bottom end of the ranking (data courtesy of Emerginvest).

The major US indices suffered their worst weekly losses this year (to record six losing weeks out of seven): Dow Jones Industrial Index -6.2% (YTD -16.1%), S&P 500 Index -6.9% (YTD -14.7%), Nasdaq Composite Index -6.1% (YTD -8.6%) and Russell 2000 Index -8.3% (YTD -17.7%).

Negative sentiment dragged the S&P 500 to seven points below its October 2002 low, whereas the Dow stopped only 80 points short of this key level. It is noteworthy that it took five years for the latter to increase from 7,286 to 14,165, but only 16 months to wipe out the entire 2002-2007 advance.

    22-feb-v1.jpg

    Source: StockCharts.com

With the bears prowling Wall Street, none of the main economic sectors registered positive returns on the week. Among exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the KBW Bank Index ETF (KBE) and the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) lost 16.6% and 15.9% respectively. However, as highlighted by John Nyaradi (Wall Street Sector Selector), inverse exchange-traded funds (ETFs) such as ProShares Short S&P 500 (SH) (+6.8%), ProShares Short Dow30 (DOG) (+5.8%) and Short QQQ ProShares (PSQ) (+5.1%) gained handsomely.

As was the case the previous week with the announcement of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s financial stability plan, last week’s mortgage relief plan, designed to stem the foreclosure crisis, also made scant impression on the stock market. President Barack Obama earmarked $275 billion to help reduce mortgage payments for up to nine million struggling borrowers and enable Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to keep mortgage rates down.

    22-feb-v2.jpg

Jeff Randall (Telegraph) wrote: “… we are in denial about the causes of recession and therefore cannot face up to the action required to lift us out of it. As Niall Ferguson, professor of history at Harvard University, wrote: ‘The reality being repressed is that the Western world is suffering a crisis of indebtedness.’ In which case, pumping out yet more debt will not be the answer. It is simply a short-term fix that in the long run creates an even bigger disaster, like giving a shivering alcoholic a case of Special Brew.” (Also read RGE Monitor’s recent guest post on the US’s financing needs.)

Barry Ritholtz (The Big Picture) has an interesting post up that lists the names of those favoring and opposing nationalization of the bigger US banks. Yes, I know it is a politically controversial issue, but rather get it over and done with than pussyfooting with “behind-the-curve” measures as being experimented with by the policymakers week after week. If nationalized banks are still alive once the toxic junk has been marked to market, they can start acting like banks and stake their claim to be privatized once again in the next economic upswing.

Notwithstanding supply concerns, government bond yields in the US, UK and Germany declined as investors continued their flight to safety. Yields of 10-year Treasuries, Bunds and Gilts were down by 14, 12 and 12 basis points respectively.

Increasing financial turbulence also resulted in the gold holdings of the world’s largest bullion-backed ETF jumping to a record level. “The SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) holdings have risen by 228.6 metric tons so far this year, to a record 1,008.8 metric tons late on Tuesday, absorbing in the first seven weeks of the year about 10% of the world’s annual mine gold output,” reported the Financial Times. Gold bullion breached the $1,000 level on Friday and closed the week at $1,002 (+6.4%) - within striking distance of its record of $1,031 reached in March last year.

With the yellow metal behaving like “the last man standing”, David Fuller reminded us of the quote by the English poet Lord Byron: “O gold! I still prefer thee unto paper, which makes bank credit like a bark of vapour.”

Besides precious metals shining brightly, the other commodities performed poorly, as shown in the graph below. The Reuters/Jeffries CRB Index recorded a six-and-a-half year low as global growth deteriorated.

    22-feb-v3.jpg

Next, a tag cloud of my week’s reading. This is a way of visualizing word frequencies at a glance. Key words such as “banks”, “China”, “financial” and “gold” featured prominently.

    22-feb-v4.jpg

As far as the outlook for stock markets is concerned, the primary bear market was reconfirmed on Thursday, at least in terms of Dow Theory. Richard Russell (Dow Theory Letters) said: “The verdict, at long last, is in. Today the DJ Industrial Average closed below its November 20 bear market low. In so doing, the Dow confirmed the prior breakdown of the Transportation Average. The two Averages jointly closed at new lows today, thereby signaling that the great bear market remains in force.

“According to Dow Theory, neither the duration nor the extent of a bear market can be predicted in advance. However there are some useful hints. Most major bear markets end with stocks at ‘great values’. This has meant in the past that price/earnings (P/E) ratios for the Dow and the S&P have fallen to single-digit numbers. It has also meant that dividend yields have moved into the 5-6% zone.”

Standard & Poor’s estimated GAAP (or “as reported”) earnings of 32.3 cents for the S&P 500 for 2009 implies a ten-month prospective P/E ratio of 23.8. Hardly “great value”.

As mentioned above, the Dow and S&P 500 are floundering around the November 20, 2008 and October 2002 lows, as shown in the columns on the right-hand side of the table below.

    22-feb-v5.jpg

Stock markets remain caught between the actions of central banks frantically trying to fend off a total economic meltdown on the one hand, and a worsening economic and corporate picture on the other. The next few days will tell whether the key chart levels will arrest the indices’ declines and the three-month trading range will hold, or whether more catastrophe lies ahead.

For more discussion about the direction of stock markets, also see my recent posts “Video-o-rama: Stocks between a rock and a hard place” and “Bennet Sedacca: Free Fallin’???“. (And do make a point of listening to Donald Coxe’s weekly webcast, which can be accessed from the sidebar of the Investment Postcards site.)

    Announcement
Back to Richard Russell, 84-year old writer of the Dow Theory Letters. Business partner John Mauldin (Thoughts from the Frontline) is organizing a “Richard Russell Tribute Dinner” for April 4 in San Diego. This will be a night of memories and good fun with fellow writers and long-time readers of Richard’s newsletter. I will be making the trip from Cape Town and would encourage you, if at all possible, also to attend this very special event. You can register here.

    Economy
A grim picture regarding the global economic situation emerges from the latest Ifo World Economic Survey (WES), showing that the World Economic Climate has declined to a record low in the first quarter of 2009. The deterioration is affecting all major economic regions and the export and import expectations indicate a clear decline in world trade in the first half of 2009.

A snapshot of the week’s US economic data is provided below. (Click on the dates to see Northern Trust’s assessment of the various data releases.)

    February 20
CPI report - underlying trend of deflation will fade only later

    February 19
Index of Leading Indicators improved, but wait before taking a leap
Wholesale prices moved up, but inflation is a non-issue, for now
Jobless Claims - dismal labor market conditions persist

    February 18
Industrial Production plunges, factory operating rate at record low
Construction of new homes at new low
Import prices - sixth consecutive monthly decline

    February 17
Housing Market Index - showing signs of stability?
Foreign appetite for Treasury securities remains in place for moment

Given the nature of economics reports of recent months, the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting of January 27-28 come as no surprise. Asha Bangalore (Northern Trust) said: “The FOMC is more bearish about the economy compared with the forecast published in October 2008. The US economy is predicted to contract in 2009 (-1.3% to -0.5%) on a Q4-to-Q4 basis.

“The consensus forecast among the Blue Chip Survey participants is a 1.9% drop in real GDP on an annual average basis in 2009. We are predicting a 2.7% decline in real GDP … So, there is a general expectation of a significant weakening of business conditions during 2009.”

Pelosi: I would have raised taxes faster By: Alex Isenstadt  The Politico February 26, 2009 11:50 AM EST House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday attacked House Republicans who have criticized President Obama's proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy to fund his health care plan. If anything, Pelosi said, Obama was being generous. "Quite frankly, I would have done it faster," she said, noting that the phaseout of top tier tax breaks will take years to complete. "It's not about raising taxes," Pelosi said. "It's about ending a tax cut." Pelosi also says Democrats are not going to slow walk health reform....

Simple question: Why has the GOP leadership not created a new Contract with America?  Vanity/Sir Gawain How hard would it be to make a list of 5 or 10 simple, clear, concise items, that every single GOP candidate runs on in the next few election cycles? It just blows my mind that this is not already something the GOP has published and pimped to every news outlet in the country. I mean, am I going to have to do Michael Steele's job for him? 1. What's This???? 153 Republicans Vote Yea to Curtail Debate on the Pork Filled Spending Bill

Posted on Thursday, February 26, 2009 7:41:53 AM by cc2k

For the past week, I've been posting about the "Omnibus Spending Bill" that the Dems have rammed through the congress. This $410 billion monster is for Fiscal Year 2009. They refused to do their job while Bush was in office and passed a continuing resolution last year to run the government until March 6. Now, they want big increases (even bigger than Bush would have approved), and they will get them with Obama's signature.

Minority leader Boehner has been sounding the alarm on this since Februrary 5th. He was calling on the Dems to publish the bill so Republicans could read it, and so that it could be made available on the Internet. He was trying to expose their plan to pass this in secrecy. Why then, did Boehner vote to limit debate on this bill to only one hour?  Even if your Congress critter did well and voted against the bill, if they voted to keep debate to just one hour, that was a bad call. These 153 Republicans voted to keep the public in the dark and rush this bill to a final vote. That's shameful.  If your representative is one of the "Yeas" above, you should contact them and ask them why they thought a $410 Billion spending bill for an entire fiscal year was so trivial that it should only be debated for a single hour. And why they voted to proceed with the final vote less than a day after the bill was shown to the public. Vote can be found at: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2194421/posts

    Michigan Tea Party!!!

    NATIONWIDE CHICAGO TEA PARTY

On-line conservative activists have rallied to CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s call earlier this week, backed by mortgage traders, for a
“Nationwide Chicago Tea Party” to protest the Obama Administration’s Stimulus plan.

Grass roots patriots in Michigan will join thousands across the nation in a "NATIONWIDE CHICAGO TEA PARTY" on
    Friday, February, 27, 2009
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at the State Capitol in Lansing.

"We are so excited to be joining thousands of our fellow Americans by bringing the Nationwide Tea Party to Lansing," says Joan Fabiano, event organizer, "Because, like Rick Santelli, we want to ask not only President Obama, but all of Congress, 'Are you Listening?!' This is a grass roots effort, much like the Boston Tea Party, of standing up against the oppression of big government and out-of-control spending."

Fabiano continued, "I urge the citizens of Michigan to come out and make their voices heard. This is a real opportunity for "We the People" to let "Them the Politicians" know that we are not going to take it any more. And I invite all Legislators and politicians who understand the true nature of government to come out and stand with us."

The "NATIONWIDE CHICAGO TEA PARTY" is sponsored by Top Conservatives on Twitter (TCOT), Smart Girl Politics, the #DontGo Movement, Americans for Tax Reform, the Heartland Institute, and American Spectator Magazine The tea parties will be held SIMULTANEOUSLY in Chicago, Washington DC, Atlanta, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Fort Worth, San Diego, Portland, and dozens of other locations around the United States.

    US Debt Addiction's Nose Bleed

Americans today view the on-going credit contraction much as heroin addicts view the disappearance of heroin-with anxiety, dread and fear.

    DEBT ADDICTION DEPRESSION DESTRUCTION
Modern economies were created by the collusion of bankers and government. The banks are now collapsing and only the governments are left. It's like watching a two legged man trying to stand on his one remaining leg. How long will he remain upright and in what direction will he fall?
    Darryl Robert Schoon
    23 February 2009
Recently on the Oprah Winfrey Show, one of the most popular TV programs in America, a family of five-a father, mother, their two teenage sons and a baby-were featured because all, except for the baby, were addicted to heroin.

Four addiction treatment centers offered to take one family member without charge in the hopes of ridding the family of its collective addiction to heroin; the single requirement being that each member must personally phone the treatment center to accept the offer and be on a plane within 24 hours.

The only difference between this tragic America family addicted to heroin and the nation of America now addicted to credit is that the family has said it is ready to kick its habit. America is not.

CREDIT ADDICTION IS NOT A METAPHOR
    IT IS THE TRUTH

America is so hopelessly addicted to credit that unlike the family that understands its addiction to heroin has destroyed everything they once had, Americans don't even yet understand they are addicted.

Americans today view the on-going credit contraction much as heroin addicts view the disappearance of heroin-with anxiety, dread and fear. Americans are so addicted to the flow of credit from the Federal Reserve that they no longer believe they can live without it.

THE SUBSTITUTION OF COUPONS FOR COINS
    AND THE MODERN BUSINESS CYCLE

The business cycle is a phrase describing the cyclic but ambulatory phase of credit addiction. The phrase, business cycle, did not come into usage until the banker's credit based paper was substituted for gold and silver coinage in the 17th and 18th centuries in a monetary sleight of hand best described as the substitution of coupons for coins.

The bankers' paper money was alleged to be as good as the gold and silver coins it replaced. But if that was true, there was no reason to replace gold and silver with paper money in the first place. But, in fact, there was a reason to do so.

The substitution of paper money for gold and silver occurred because the banker's paper money allowed governments to wage war on credit and bankers to profit by collecting interest on paper money legitimized by government's fiat decree.

This collusion between bankers and government has lasted for more than three hundred years. It is now about to end as the bankers' unnatural business cycle is, at last, approaching its natural end.

The modern business cycle, i.e. economic expansion and contraction, is assumed to be as natural as the waxing and waning of the moon. But the phases of economic expansion and contraction are assumed to be natural only because the substitution of credit for money has lasted for so long.

The unnatural availability of credit causes an unnatural expansion of economic activity. This "economic expansion" is later followed by an "economic contraction" wherein the debts introduced by the unnatural availability of credit cannot be repaid. The business cycle is as unnatural as the monetary system upon which it is based.

Like a medical profession that only seeks to prolong the patients' condition, central bankers are concerned solely with maintaining the present system, not curing our ills, a system comprised of cycles of credit and debt that produces profit for bankers, power for governments and debts for the rest of us.

This is why governments have now put the well-being of bankers above the well being of the citizens they are pledged to protect. Government is concerned above all with the continuation of its own power and the basis of that power has been the constant supply of central bankers' credit whereby present citizens and future generations are indebted to pay for its expenditures.

Soon, America's addiction to credit will end. But unlike the family featured on Oprah Winfrey, the addiction will not end because of the free volition of those addicted-America's addiction to credit will end because credit will no longer be available. Banks, the intermediaries of credit between central banks and the users of credit, are now insolvent.

CREDIT AND DEBT-THE BANKERS' SUBSTITUTE FOR MONEY

Modern economics is, in truth, a monetary pathology akin to a blood disease wherein the body's blood supply has been supplanted by a blood substitute for the purposes of power and profit.

Money is supposed to be a unit of value and a carrier of wealth. Instead it has been transformed by bankers into a means by which bankers' credit has been inserted into every aspect of human commerce and ambition.

Debased by bankers, money, the lifeblood of commerce, has instead become a conduit of credit and debt which like the AIDS virus over time weakens all systems and all societies. Now, we are about to pay the price for allowing bankers to issue their credit as our money. Systemic collapse is next.

THE FUSE ON THE DEBT BOMB HAS BEEN LIT

The post-1980 era of well-being, circa 1980-2006, experienced primarily by Americans and those who supplied their needs, i.e. exporters of oil and manufactured goods, was in essence a time bomb that would eventually explode; a time bomb filled with increasing amounts of inevitably defaulting debt.

Once the tie between currencies and gold was severed by the US in 1971, money and credit especially in America could be created in unlimited quantities and so it was. The whipsaw of the 1970s was succeeded by the "stability and prosperity" of the 1980s where the US went on a borrowing binge, trebling the US national debt in only ten years.

But the "prosperity and stability" of the post-1980 era was but an illusion that would later be destroyed by the inevitable collapse of the extraordinary amount of credit and debt which fueled it.

Between 1980 and 2006, the debt bomb was filled with ever increasing amounts of debt. Prior to 1980, debt was looked upon as a liability to be paid off. But after 1980, debt was considered best rolled over to be paid off perhaps sometime in the future.

After 1980, a critical change occurred in how debt was viewed. In America, the Reagan anti-government (except for the military) ideology resulted in the belief that the way to destroy government was to burden it with debt, an idea akin to believing that shooting oneself in the head will eliminate a troubling headache (it will).

The result of this short-sighted idiot-ology has been the unrestrained growth of debt under previously fiscally conservative Republican administrations, debts that will in the end destroy not only the US government but America itself.

I have my own views about the boundaries of government and how to effectively limit its powers and its unconstitutional and egregious excesses which are many. There are far better ways in which to do so and the gold standard, purposefully distorted and discounted by those both on the right and left who wish to overspend and exert control for their own ends, is a far better means of so doing.

Nonetheless, the post-1980 illusory era of prosperity and stability ended in August 2007 when an "unexpected" (unexpected by whom?) credit contraction froze global credit markets and the debt-based game of musical chairs called capitalism, i.e. capital markets composed of debt-based paper based on central bank debt-based money, came to a screeching halt-and, at that very moment, the fuse on the global debt bomb was lit.

The ambulatory phase of credit addiction is now over. Those addicted have refused intervention for decades and thereby invited the inevitable consequence wherein debt unattended is like a cancer unattended. In such instances, time is not your friend, it is your enemy-the deadliest enemy you have.

    THE DERIVATIVES OF DEBT
    PROMISES PROMISES PROMISES

Debt derivatives, e.g. CDOs, CDSs, CLOs, etc., are all IOUs, IOUs rapidly becoming ICPs-I Can't Pay-all variants and derivatives of promises to pay with paper money which is backed by nothing except the promises of governments.

We have now reached the stage where the banker's charade of paper money and debt can no longer expand fast enough to even minimally service the debts it has created. What is next has been brewing for over three hundred years.

An era is now ending as are the advantages and inequities of that age. Unnatural cycles introduced by the hand of man are inevitably subsumed in the greater cycles of life. Were it not so, we would be in far greater trouble than we are now in-and we are now in very deep trouble.

Just as those who live by the sword often die by the sword, the same is true for credit. Once the source of England and America's immense power, central bank credit, now debt, is destroying what it ...( very lengthy article is continued at http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_08/schoon022309.html )

“Since the Great Depression”The economic one, not the feeling you’ve had since he signed the “stimulus” bill.

“Save or create” jobs Obama’s new metric whereby he can claim credit for the outcome no matter what happens (how exactly does one determine the number of "saved" jobs?)

“Crisis” - Excuse to hike taxes and grow the government per Rahm Emanuel’s theory: “Never let a crisis go to waste."

“Stimulus” – The 1,000 page Pelosi-Reid-Obama pork bill rushed through in the dead of night with no transparency and that not a single member of Congress who voted for it actually read.

“Hope” – The optimistic expectation, against all evidence that this government will be the first in the history of time to succeed in spending its way out of economic problems.

“Change” – Take-home pay of future generations due to massive spending increases and government expansion.

“Bipartisan” – "Pelosi and Reid get to decide what we'll do, but I'll have you over for tea first."

“Children and grandchildren” – The people picking up the tab.

“Shovel-ready” – Vital projects that somehow are not important enough to receive funding through the regular appropriations process at the local, state, or federal level.

“Toxic assets”-  Now the responsibility of those who followed the rules and made wise decisions.

“Failed policies of the past”An overspending problem by George W. Bush to be expanded by Obama

    “Investment”Government spending.

    “Sacrifice” – Tax hikes.

“As I’ve said before”Prepare for a poll tested line from stump speeches.

“Make work pay” – Writing welfare checks through the tax code (and then calling it a tax cut).

“Climate change” – (Formerly known as Global Warming) The natural cycles of the sun and the four seasons.

“FDR” – The last President to attempt and fail to spend the country’s way out of a hole.

“Let me be clear”Warning to “have your shovel ready.”

“Executive pay – A serious problem because large cash awards are only appropriate when politicians dole out taxpayer money to the pet projects of their sons, brothers, wives, or campaign contributors.

“Protecting responsible homeowners” – Forcing you to pay your neighbor’s mortgage.

“Trillion-dollar deficit that we've inherited” – Bush overspending – which Obama just doubled.

“Essential services” – Government programs that employ unionized bureaucrats.

“Vulnerable Americans – People that Obama wants to make dependent on the government.

“Tax cuts to 95 percent of working families” – See “Make Work Pay”

“Alternative energy”– Energy that is either too expensive or hasn't succeeded in the free market on its own (if it worked, it would just be called “energy”)

Don't Nationalize Our Banks  Excerpted from: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=320370911901484

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, February 24, 2009 4:20 PM PT

Banking: The federal government may be getting ready to nationalize one or more of America's major banks. The reason often cited for taking such drastic action is "systemic risk." Are our banks really in such dire shape?

You might be surprised to discover that the answer is no.

Yes, some banks are struggling right now with big losses on real estate and their securitized loan investment portfolios. But roughly 90% of America's banks are in decent shape.

But you don't have to take our word for it.

As the chart in the next column shows, overall lending at U.S. commercial banks was up 5.7% in January from last year to $9.85 trillion, a record. Since 1990, average annualized monthly lending growth has been 7.3%. In other words, we're just below normal.

Commercial and industrial loans, a key gauge of business access to credit, were up 8.4% in January — though down from the roaring 20%-plus growth rate of early last year. Consumer loans rose 10.1%.

In short, bank lending is at record levels. That's a data-based fact.

So why all the talk of nationalization? Especially after reading what the U.S. banking system's five regulatory agencies — the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the Comptroller of the Currency, the Office of Thrift Supervision and the Federal Reserve — had to say after they met on Monday.

It got little attention at the time, but it sure turned our heads. Down at the bottom of the regulators' release came this revealing statement: "Currently, the major banking institutions have capital in excess of the amounts required to be considered well-capitalized."

Get that? The major banks have enough capital to be considered "well-capitalized." And as the data above indicate, they're lending.

So why all the talk of crisis? Why the threats to nationalize? Why are we force-feeding banks like foie gras geese with $1 trillion in taxpayer-funded capital when many, if not most, don't need it?

This, by the way, is completely contrary to the image we've received from both the media and the administration that somehow we're on the edge of a banking Armageddon. We aren't.

One reason we're in better shape than we thought is that last year the Federal Reserve moved quickly to make sure banks had enough liquidity, injecting hundreds of billions of dollars into the system and cutting interest rates to stimulate loan demand. (more)

FUTURE: The Invitation: WE WANT AMERICA BACK.
       DO YOU?

COME JOIN US ON SEPTEMBER 12TH & 13TH IN WASHINGTON D.C.

AT THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL REFLECTION POOL

IN FRONT OF THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL

Freedoms First is dedicated to informing the people of the free world of threats to our freedoms such as corrupted politicians, the corrupt news media and terrorist threats. Where terrorism comes from and how it is formed.

Freedoms first is a vehicle for American Citizens to participate in taking back our nation. Obama slipped into office by being actively sheltered by the mainstream media, and should Obama enact even a portion of his radical agenda, our nation risks serious and permanent injury. The most critical areas of the Obama agenda include the following:

Domestic Policy – His civilian defense corp, and other proposals, is deeply disturbing.

Energy Production – Obama has too many counterproductive energy proposals to list here.

Economic Policy – The US faces a 2nd potential economic depression if Obama policies are enacted.

Foreign policy- FF strongly believes that Obama represents an increased liability worldwide. The Middle East is now sharply more precarious.

FF will elaborate on these assertions in our new and permanent website. Citizens voted for Obama because they do not know him. Therefore, education will be paramount to our mission so that our nation never again finds itself in the current position.

We will inform you of breaking news ,events and updates on current things happening such as lawsuits and other organisations .

We will give you the tools and information you need to help us help you take back our country.

We will organise petitions and peaceful protests through out our country to make your voices heard.

We will organise boycotts on companies that threaten our freedoms or support organisations that do.

We will support our armed forces that fight for our freedom.

We will support all of our friends and allies around the world that also enjoy freedom and help them with any battles they may have.

Thank you for your time and patriotism together we can take back America and make it what it is supposed to be.

The incoming Obama administration is prepared to abandon George Bush’s doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.

The move to open contacts with Hamas, which could be initiated through the US intelligence services, would represent a definitive break with the Bush presidency’s ostracising of the group. The state department has designated Hamas a terrorist organisation, and in 2006 Congress passed a law banning US financial aid to the group.

The Guardian has spoken to three people with knowledge of the discussions in the Obama camp. There is no talk of Obama approving direct diplomatic negotiations with Hamas early on, but he is being urged by advisers to initiate low-level or clandestine approaches, and there is growing recognition in Washington that the policy of ostracising Hamas is counter-productive. A tested course would be to start contacts through Hamas and the US intelligence services, similar to the secret process through which the US engaged with the PLO in the 1970s. Israel did not become aware of the contacts until much later.  Posted on January 9, 2009 at: excerpt from: http://jewagainstobama.wordpress.com/

It's not just RIck Santelli, gang. Right now it's "No!" rather than "Hell No!", but American don't seem to care for President Obama's housing plan. Here are some key numbers from Rasmussen: ... 55% of American adults say the federal government would be rewarding bad behavior by providing mortgage subsidies to financially troubled homeowners. Among investors, 65% hold that view. ...

I always lamented the fact that I could not drive - cannot judge distance and no peripheral - however, it's been a blessing these last few weeks. My son, a more cool-headed person than I, resists the urge to smash into every car with an Obama bumper sticker pasted on it - I don't know if I could resist were I to be behind the wheel...

I am very angry with O and his gang of Marxist oppressors! After ruining our country with this stupid bailout, O will want to become dictator for life (like Hitler), no doubt! O and his comrades from hell, sow confusion and chaos to create the change they toward socialism; rewarding evil behavior, and punishing good behavior is one way to discourage and dishearten those who won't buckle under! This is deconstruction, it's one of their methods to destroy the old order. We need to show these creeps that they have bitten off more than they can chew with at least half (or even more) of Americans! We need to show them some fearfully angry tea parties! They are cowards, and now is the time to let them see how angry we all are, and what can happen as a result! Marxists always talk about revolution, so lets give them one they won't forget!

What's scary is that 45% of the people think it would NOT be rewarding bad behavior to subsidize.

Those people are out there still buying homes, cars, boats, RV's and anything their little hearts desire. Try ninety seven percent down on a home and put the rest on a credit card. Thank you Barney Frank and the rest of you freaks in Congress. I know someone who did just that. They just walked away when the notices came and left everyone in the lurch.

Next it was new cars at a high interest rates. They came for those. The next time I saw them they had a new Pickup. There are car lots, dealers and people who live on sales volume. They will resell those vehicles many times.

We have had credit cards canceled because we pay off the balance each month, or a card idles because we don't charge anything for some time. That isn't what credit card suppliers want. They want the charge a seller pays plus the interest from the buyer. President Nil isn't going to solve any of these problems, he's making them worse. In the end, they can't see past the next election and worse, the pork to buy votes. This country is teetering on the brink, and Santelli is correct.

Those that think it's OK to subsidize bad behaviour are known as Boomers and their X and Y offspring. You know the ones, they have never in their lives had a real hardship, except for maybe running out of vanilla for their latte at Starbucks or survivor was pre-empted for a news broadcast. To these bozos, that brings them back to the time of the great depression or Hoovervilles. All of which is supported by your local teacher who has pictures of Zero plastered all over their classrooms.

And Obama's way to cut the deficit? It's to increase taxes on 'the rich' during a recession. I also read yesterday -- guess how he wants to make SS solvent? By jacking up payroll taxes of course, on higher income people! Regulate it, tax it and subsidize it - it's the Obama way!

I know what #5 means. Yesterday I saw a very expensive Mercedes with windows painted "Yes we Did!" My ears were steaming, I was so livid. Yeah, you did all right. The majority of hardworking Americans have lost at least 30% of their savings, more losses to come with higher taxes, Hussein's continued spreading of the wealth so dolts like this can drive a $130,000 car! I didn't ram the car, just gave her the old finger like Hussein so elegantly has given us.

If they was ever an object lesson about the gap between those in the ivory tower and those living on the ground, this issue is it! This has nothing to do with helping out your "brother" and everything to do with bailing out irresponsible and often deliberately bad behavior.

There are 10 houses on a block and 9 owners break their backs paying off their mortgages. They all know their neighbor at the end of the block shouldn't have gotten a house as he's a ne'er-do-well who can't hold a job. But he gets one anyway and for no money down! He then promptly defaults and wants everyone else to now pay his "rent", i.e., mortgage. Or worse, the entire debt is forgiven or seriously crammed down and he gets the whole house basically for free! Now, Obammy says that's all cool BUT the other homeowners would like to see the house burned down, with or without the drunk inside. That is how shooting wars start and revolutions get made. Ask Marie Antoinette.

The first step in a govt. refinancing process should be a perusal of the original mortgage paperwork for fraud committed by either the borrower, broker or lender, with the threat of prosecution. Probably 50% of the folks would say "Never mind." and walk away.

Just wait until the Senior Citizens hear what Obama's health will do for them. The new health care plan will ration medicine. If they have a chronic condition ( high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, etc).they will be unable to get medicine(even if they can pay for it). They will only get 'pallitive'care (read hospice). There is already a move to legalize euthanasia.

Our nation is supporting people financially who are illegal, and others who are lazy and won't work. Does anyone believe the scriptures that say, if anyone won't work, they shouldn't eat.

I listened to Glenn Beck yesterday, and he indicated he had spent some time recently with high ranking military friends, and they warned him the militiary believes a civil war is coming, and the military is preparing for it. Their quote to Beck was *it is 1860 all over again* I believe this is the main reason for 0's push to take away guns. I also believe it is the reason the founders wrote the second Amendment.
