This ought to spice things up at Chrysler

Belinda Stronach and Bill Clinton

Little doubt now that Magna International is the lead prospect to buy Chrysler Group from DaimlerChrysler. One of the healthiest parts suppliers in North America, Canada's Magna has more union support than the private equity firms or Kirk Kerkorian, and as owner of Magna-Steyr, it knows how to build cars (its Intier division makes the magic seats for Chrysler's minivans). Now comes the rumor that if this sale happens, Chrysler's new CEO would be Belinda Stronach.

Who? She's the daughter, barely 40, of Magna chairman Frank Stronach, who moved from his native Austria to Canada some half-century ago and founded the company.

Stronach the younger was Magna's CEO until she ran for the Canadian Parliament three years ago as a Conservative. Known, Madonna-like in Canada by her first name, reports The First Post, which has been closely following her story, she crossed the aisle in Ottawa to leave the Conservative party for the Liberals. Last year, the Liberals got mired in scandal, and Belinda considered running for party leadership to replace the prime minister, but dropped out because her inter-party opposition was too strong.

Stronach announced on April 11 that she plans to return to a job at Magna, Canada's CBC television reported, although she's not yet listed among the officers at Magna's corporate website. "She once wanted to run Canada. She may have to make do with Chrysler instead," The First Post reported.

Why would Belinda Stronach running Chrysler be more interesting than, say, Wolfgang Bernhard running Chrysler? Because Wolfgang, as far as I know, isn't an FOB. Belinda is. Last year rumors ran rampant in Canada that she was more than just a friend of former President Bill Clinton. She has denied the rumors, and has since been named in divorce papers filed by the wife of Toronto Maple Leaf Tie Domi.

Anyway, I can say with reasonable certainty that Bill, still Belinda's friend at the very least, would have no trouble distinguishing the electrical outlet from a hydrogen filler if his wife invites the Big Three over to the White House lawn with environmentally friendly cars.

After Bill: what Belinda did next

Belinda Stronach, heiress, politician and close friend of Bill Clinton, is riding a monster wave of publicity. The woman who once looked as though she might star as the other woman in a Bill and Hillary divorce case, has been named in the divorce of an infamously macho Canadian sportsman.

She was cited in papers filed last month by Leanne Domi, wife of the Maple Leafs' enforcer Tie Domi, one of the toughest men in the tough sport of ice hockey. Leanne says her husband of 13 years and the blonde bombshell politician began an "intimate sexual relationship" last January.

Stronach (right), while not denying the affair, claims the Domis' marital troubles have nothing to do with her and any suggestions otherwise are "inaccurate and irresponsible".

The daughter of one of Canada's richest businessmen, Frank

Stronach, and known commonly as 'Sellout Barbie' ever since she quit the Conservatives and crossed to the Liberals, Belinda has become better known for her taste in men than for her political ambitions. And this week a 'semi-authorised' biography hits the shelves, just to remind us what a gal she is.

A year ago, people might well have asked why anyone would want such a book. Yes, she was known for her alleged dalliance with Bill Clinton - even now the subject of mystery - but what else had she really achieved except work her way up the family company (Magna, an auto parts conglomerate) to become its CEO, and attend the requisite charity events?

At 39, she had been divorced twice, first from a fellow Magna executive, then from a Norwegian speed-skater; she had confessed to using cannabis; there was her dramatic

political volte-face; and she had made the Time magazine list of the world's 100 most influential people.

But she only truly hit the public consciousness this summer when she was linked with Domi (right).

Clinton didn't count: who among the often-dowdy women in his life has not been romantically linked to the man whose carnal appetites are surpassed only by his love for a good jelly doughnut? Anyway, when the arch-conservative American commentator Ann Coulter revealed that Monica Lewinsky had compared Clinton's member to a "thumb", Bill's sexual mystery collapsed.

But a famous hockey player is quite a different thing in Canada. Still linked to Clinton - they have a global poverty date in Montreal next month - Stronach's love for Domi, one of the country's most beloved thugs, has made Canada wonder: what does the princess see in this toad?

This aristocratic blonde has a sexual fixation on a goon who made an entire career of gloves-off pugnacity

The truth is, this well-groomed, aristocratic, dull-featured blonde has a sexual fixation on a goon who made an entire career of gloves-off pugnacity, before retiring last month. Suddenly the little yellow-haired girl is a different creature entirely - one whose desire lurks just below her ice. Despite Leanne Domi's grievance with her errant husband, Stronach says she is suffering from a double-standard: men get to bang bimbos - or 'puck bunnies' as we know them - with impunity, so what's her crime?

As all women know, powerful men are one thing, but physically powerful men are something else. Here is a woman who seems to be saying, with a hair-flip: "I do what I please, and I do it with ease." Not since the days of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's wayward wife Margaret has Canada enjoyed the performance of a true libertine, a girl who lives big and in the moment.

What a difference a Clinton makes

Hillary Clinton will forever be the Orwellian Big Sister candidate. She has fallen victim to a video, being screened on YouTube, which portrays her as Big Brother, telling the serried ranks of human drones that she wants a "conversation" about America.

The 74-second video - a brilliant rip-off of the famous Ridley Scott ad that launched the Apple Mac personal computer in the US back in 1984 - follows a lone female runner as she is chased by riot police through the crowd to smash Hillary's image with a hammer, saving us all from tyranny.

A caption rolls: "On January 14th the Democratic primary will begin. And you'll see why 2008 isn't going to be like 1984". Then comes the tag line: BarackObama.com.

The spoof hits home because it portrays exactly what bothers America about Hillary. The man who

made it, Philip deVellis, had to quit his job with Blue State Digital. It turned out that Blue State, an internet service company, had worked for Obama's campaign, even though deVellis himself had not. Obama's campaign team denies all.

Hillary needs a rub of husband Bill's charm more than ever. As she was being branded Big Sister, Bill Clinton was scoring $70,000 in half an hour in a most unusual fundraiser. He went to the SoulCycle 'spinning' gym in Manhattan to schmooze 35 women and five men who had paid $2,300 apiece to straddle exercise bikes.

The ladies stripped to spandex bra-and-shorts, but were asked to don T-shirts with the slogans 'Exercise Your Vote' for modesty. Bill kept his clothes on. "He was incredible, he was engaging, exciting, warm, brilliant, phenomenal," gushed one of the cyclists. If only they'd say the same about Hillary.
